CAP Flying Extended Through 30 September 2014!
Good news!  Proficiency flying is extended through 30 Sep 14.  The staff has worked very hard to provide these additional two weeks of flying and the WMIRS system has your “A-12” sorties available for loading.  As it is essential to utilize the funds provided for flying, it is highly encouraged that pilots take full advantage of this “A-12” extended flying proficiency opportunity that has been provided.

Aircraft Ground Handling Training (Updated Version) to be Posted on 2 Sep 14!

CAPP 212, Stan/Eval Officer Specialty Track Study Guide, is updated and ready for Use!

CAPR 60-1 revised…the new version dated 3 May 2014 is ready for use!
The updated CAPR 60-1 is released and effective immediately!  This updated version provides greater authority to wing commanders pertaining to wind limitations and modifies cadet ground handling training requirements to support efficiency of cadet participation in o-rides.  This new version of CAPR 60-1 can be found on the Forms, Publications and Regulations webpage on capmembers.com or simply click here to go directly to the regulation.

CAPR 60-1 and related Flight Evaluation Forms are updated and ready for use!

New Over Water Survival Course (OWC) is classroom based.  
The Over Water Survival Course consists of classroom-based instruction and a test that is required of all crew members who are, or plan to be, participating in an extended overwater flight or sortie.  As a reminder the new OWC is not a self-study course. The OWC will be taught by an instructor which has been appointed and approved by the wing commander or designee. CAP Aircraft Checklists Revised – Pitot Heat Step Modified!

Aircrew Professionalism information is Now Available for Use!
The “Aircrew Professionalism” section is posted on the CAP Pilots web page to include the “Aviators Model Code of Conduct” website along with the actual Aviators Model Code of Conduct (AMCC) document.  This information was developed by a team of aviation professionals, drawing upon decades of research and experience, the Code provides expectations and recommends operating practices to enhance the quality and safety of CAP flight operations.  Aircrew conduct impacts the entire aviation community, including its safety culture.  A code of conduct can help achieve new levels of proficiency.  The AMCC is a tool, a set of guidelines which is useful to each CAP aircrew member and the overall flying community. CAP aircrew members are encouraged to use this aircrew professionalism information and to commit to the highest principles of aviation safety and professionalism.

CAP Glider Tow Winch & Glider Auto Tow Training Requirements Established!
CAP Glider Tow Winch & Glider Auto Tow Training Requirements are established and implemented, effective immediately, to ensure a minimum level of training has been met by those whom CAP has entrusted to perform the critical act of launching CAP’s glider aircraft.  A minimum level of tow experience is essential as the safety of members flying CAP gliders is largely dependent on the proficiency of the launch equipment operator when utilizing tow winch and auto tow vehicles for this purpose. Tow Winch & Auto Tow Training Requirements are located at capmember.com on the CAP Pilots web page in the “Gliders” section; CAP Glider Tow Winch & Glider Auto Tow qualification data will be submitted into Ops Quals “Pilot > Prerequisites” section for official record keeping.  Effective 1 Mar 14: only qualified tow equipment operators will launch CAP members and CAP gliders.

CAP Glider Checklists now available!
CAP Glider Checklists have been produced to provide CAP glider pilots with basic checklist items for the purpose of enhanced glider flight safety.  These checklists are based on FAA guidance and standard mnemonic formats used throughout the US glider community; they are designed to be general checklists suitable for the gliders in the CAP fleet. The CAP Glider checklists may be found on the CAP Pilots web page in the "Gliders" section.  Many members of the CAP glider community made input to the process in developing these checklists.  Particular thanks go to Lt Col Phil Jones and Col Jim Linker of the NER glider team, Maj Carl Keil of the RMR glider team, Capt Mark Grant of the GLR glider Team, and Col Jack Buschmann the National Glider Program Officer.

Some CAPR 60-1 supplements are set to expire on 12 June 2013!
All supplements to previous versions of CAPR 60-1 must be updated and recertified, or approved by NHQ, within 6 months of CAPR 60-1's newest issue date.  If there are no changes to the supplement, it may simply be updated and recertified, then sent directly to NHQ (in MS Word format) for posting.  If there are any changes, the supplement must be updated and sent through the approval process as outlined in CAPR 60-1.  Updated supplements to CAPR 60-1, dated 12 Dec 12, are due by 12 Jun 13. CAP C-172 N/P/R aircraft checklists…are yours current?
All CAP C-172 N/P/R aircraft are subject to STC SA2196C which increases the maximum certified takeoff gross weight to 2550 lbs.  As a result of the associated gross weight increase, all CAP C-172 N/P/R aircraft checklists should have been updated years ago to reflect the following associated increased tire pressure requirements: Nose-45 PSI & mains-38 PSI.  All NHQ approved CAP C-172 N/P/R aircraft checklists have also been modified to reflect revised Oil Type terminology which is now listed as “Aviation Grade”.             Important: Please take time to review your aircraft checklist prior to flight to ensure you are using the most current version.  If your CAP C-172 N/P/R aircraft checklist does not reflect both, increased Tires Pressures and new Oil Type terminology, download a current CAP Aircraft Checklist posted on the CAPmembers.com web site, located on the “CAP Pilots” web page in the “Aircraft Familiarization” section or simply click here to go directly to the "CAP Pilots" web page.

Towbar Checklist Item added to all Aircraft Checklists!
In order to reduce the number of towbar related incidents, all CAP standardized online aircraft checklists in the NHQ database have been revised to include the “Towbar-Removed and Stowed” item, in compliance with the CAP National Commander’s “Towbar Incidents” directive dated 23 April 2013.

G500 & GTN-650 Courses are online in Ops Quals!
In order to enhance current aircraft capabilities, the Civil Air Patrol is installing technologically advanced avionics equipment into fleet aircraft to include G500 & GTN-650 avionics packages for C172s, C182s, and C206s.  Learning material provided by CAP offers a standardized G500 & GTN-650 education for the pilots who will fly these aircraft.  The G500 & GTN-650 courses may be conducted as self study, or by the preferred method of an instructor led course, providing CAP’s pilots with the knowledge required to operate this equipment.  The G500 & GTN-650 course material is located in Ops Quals on the Training Material Page.

Aircraft Portable Fire Extinguisher Guidance & AIF Updated!
CAP's aircraft portable fire extinguisher guidance has been updated, as well as the Aircraft Information File (AIF) "Current Version of Contents" page and "VOR Test Record-Fire Extinguisher Inspection" page to reflect the revised fire extinguisher guidance. This change clarifies the fire extinguisher label inspection and monthly requirements.  Standardized aircraft portable fire extinguisher guidance is provided to enable aircrews to determine whether their fire extinguisher is in serviceable condition and ready for use.  This guidance is conveniently located on the CAP Pilots webpage or simply click here to go directly to the page.

Aircraft Information File (AIF) Has Been Updated!
The national operations team has updated the Aircraft Information Files (AIF) to aid CAP members with enhanced aircraft maintenance awareness.  These changes are provided to increase awareness of required engine overhaul inspections and corrosion prevention treatment, as well as to increase efficiencies by relocating the monthly fire extinguisher inspection. The AIF Cover Page has been updated adding “Engine Overhaul” and “Corrosion Prevention Treatment Guidance”. The monthly “Fire Extinguisher Inspection” is moved to Tab 3 with the VOR Test. Updated AIF pages include the following: AIF Layout Instructions, AIF Cover Page, the Current Version of Contents Page, and the VOR Test Record-Fire Extinguisher Inspection pages. New CAPF 5, CAP Flight Evaluation Form, is updated and ready for Use!
A revised version of the CAPF 5, dated Jan 13, is posted for use in the capmembers.com web site on the Forms, Publications & Regulations web page.  The minor changes include adding “Instrument Demo” back to the Additional CAP Endorsements section to minimize confusion, as well as removal of “AF(J)ROTC Orientation Pilot” from the Additional CAP Endorsements section, as the single “Orientation Pilot” endorsement may be used to satisfy both CAP & AF(J)ROTC Orientation Pilot form 5 requirements.  The new CAPF 5, dated Jan 13, is posted for immediate use, all previous versions of CAPF 5 are obsolete.

G1000 Is Now A CAP Form 5 Endorsement!
We are happy to announce that, in a joint NHQ/National staff effort, CAP has completed a significant improvement to the way we process G1000 qualification data.   The process changes have been implemented to provide increased efficiencies in both pilot utilization and much needed efficiencies in a robust and very complex Ops Quals/WMIRS flight data management system.  Your cooperation and patience during this transformation has been much appreciated throughout this very important process of progressing forward with much needed Ops Quals/WMIRS system improvements.  Thank you.

CAP provides a fire extinguisher in each aircraft for use in case of an emergency. Air Crew Emergency Training (ACET) Course Is Launched!
There is always a possibility that a pilot may become incapacitated during flight; this course provides guidance to other crew members pertaining to survival measures they make take during such an occurrence.  Although CFIs are trained to teach primary flight students, training for survival requires specialized focus.  Therefore, this online Train-the-Trainer course has been developed to provide guidance in this area and will be required before participation in the program.  This course has been approved for Non-Pilot Mission Observers on a voluntary basis.  Course materials are located online in eServices through “Learning Management System” (LMS) found in the “Operations” section in the LMS.
