Reports from the National Weather Service indicate that Hurricane Cooper will soon make landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane in the panhandle of Florida, along the Alabama and Florida state lines east of Mobile. Winds are expected to pick up over the next few hours in our area, and the eye of the storm is expected to pass through Montgomery around 6PM. All personnel are released at this time (simulated) after securing your work areas. Please check out with your supervisors and directors, and be sure they know how to reach you. Please take your time going home, and be safe this evening – stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Listen to the radio and watch the local news to determine if Maxwell AFB and CAP NHQ will be open following the storm tomorrow. It’s also not too late to review what we sent a few days ago and prepare accordingly – see below.

The NOC is currently tracking Hurricane Cooper in the Gulf of Mexico. There is a very good chance it will impact AL early next week. We want to take this opportunity to give you a few hurricane preparation reminders:
- Secure moveable items in your yard such as lawn furniture this weekend.
- Make sure you have enough food and water to last several days.
- Listen to the local radio or news stations to see if the base will be closed.
- Let your supervisor know if you or your family receive any injuries or property damage. Directors have identified key personnel who will carry laptops and other critical equipment home so they will have access to it in case theyhave to work from home or elsewhere.
Check out: http://www.ready.gov/america/beinformed/hurricanes.html. There is a lot of useful information posted on hurricane preparedness, and it is not too late for you to review it and prepare yourself and your families.
Have a safe weekend.
