The goal of the cadet physical fitness program is to make cadets physically fit and to motivate them to develop a lifelong habit of exercising regularly.
- The first method to achieve this goal is to have the units create a fitness program.
- The second method is testing the cadets using the Cadet Physical Fitness Test (CPFT).
There are awards available for both individuals and units.
President's Active Lifestyle Award
Because the primary goal of the cadet physical fitness program, to develop a lifelong habit of exercising regularly, is closely aligned with the President's Challenge, cadets may qualify for President's Challenge Awards. For details, see President's Challenge.
The Presidential Physical Fitness Award
Because the cadet physical fitness test is aligned with the PCPFS fitness test, cadets may be eligible for awards sponsored by the President's Council. For more information, see the
Fitness Challenge 2009 Flyer.
Squadron Physical Fitness Award
A semi-annual award based on the overall scores of their cadets on the CPFT. For details, see the
Fitness Challenge 2009 Flyer.
* An important issue about the CPFT needs to be clarified in the procedures to retest a cadet. The wording “When retesting, all events required for their physical fitness category must be completed and passed” means that the cadet cannot bank the events he might have passed the first time the cadet took the test. The cadet must test the entire test over again. This does not add any additional requirement that they would now need to pass all 5 sections of the CPFT.
