Aerospace Dimensions - 2nd Edition

A second edition of the Aerospace Dimensions textbook series of six modules is now available. The “Dimensions” are the texts cadets use to study aerospace during Phases I and II of the Cadet Program.

We have added new content to each of the six modules. The second edition offers cadets a modernized, expanded text. With aerospace being a changing field of study, this revision was needed because much has happened in aerospace since the text was first published in 2000.

Distribution

All cadets who join after 1 October 2010 will automatically receive the Dimensions 2nd edition in the New Cadet Kits mailed to them by NHQ.

Cadets who are currently studying the Dimensions 1st edition may continue to do so, or may switch to the 2nd edition.

In late October, each squadron will automatically receive a courtesy copy of the Dimensions 2nd edition. Additional hard copies may be obtained from Vanguard.

Achievement Tests

1st Edition Cadets. Cadets who study the 1st edition will continue to take the related tests using either the online 1st edition tests available in eServices; or the hard copy CAP Test 61, dated April 2003, with a January 2005 errata memo. These tests will be clearly labeled “1st edition” in eServices.

2nd Edition Cadets. Cadets who study the 2nd edition (i.e.: cadets joining after 1 October 2010 or those who opt to switch to the 2nd edition) will use the online 2nd edition tests available in eServices. As with other online tests, local leaders can download and print hard copy versions of the 2nd edition tests for those cadets who lack Web access or have a learning disability. These tests will be clearly labeled “2nd edition” in eServices.

Impact on Milestone Award Exams

The Wright Brothers Award is not affected in any way as it has no aerospace requirement.

The Mitchell and Earhart Award exams include hard copy aerospace tests (CAP Tests 64-1 and 64-2, respectively, both dated October 2006). We’ve reviewed those tests and determined that they are fair and valid for all cadets, no matter which Dimensions edition they study. But beginning on 1 January 2012, we will issue new Mitchell and Earhart aerospace tests based solely on the 2nd edition of Dimensions.

The Eaker Award is not affected in any way as it has no aerospace requirement.

The Spaatz Award exam’s aerospace test is not affected as its subject matter is based on the Aerospace: The Journey of Flight, not Aerospace Dimensions.

Comments

I will be putting this dazzling insight to good use in no time.

Since the tests are now open book, the AE Team does not anticipate making study guides for the new aerospace modules.

When will the study guide be available for the 2nd edition Aerospace Dimensions?

I joined in Feb 2011 and am studing the second edition. Are there any study guide questions that I can down load to help me study for the exam? Where would I find them? Thank you for your help with this matter. Tschoerner
